Igniting the Experience of Discovery

Post Olympic

Judging from what I heard on the street and read on the statuses of Facebook, many people stayed up late for the last three weeks to watch the Olympics.  Even those of us who hardly watch sports the other 3.9 years (well, maybe some figure skating in the winter Olympics) became glued to the television for the Olympics.  What is it that is so compelling?

There is always the pageantry and cultural display from the host country, but what kept us tuned in were the amazing physical achievements.  We love to watch as someone breaks a world record or overcomes an injury.  Since we haven’t watched the hours of training we get to join their story at the moment of truth: will the years of training pay off as a gold medal?  It’s not just about their physical preparation; it’s about their mental preparation.  There are very few times when we are exposed to so many people who have such focus and determination.  How could you develop your mental resources in a way that help you achieve long term goals?  Many of us are good at setting and achieving short term goals, but long term goals are more elusive.  In what areas of your life could you use more focus and determination?  What could you start doing today that will help you reach a goal that is 5 or 10 years in the future?
Setting and achieving goals is just one part of the coaching process.  Want to learn more about life coaching?  Read more or contact me.
