What is life coaching?

Life coaching consists of a series of conversations.  As your coach, I will ask you questions to help you think about your life in terms of discovering your habits, learning new patterns, and gaining new insight into yourself and those around you.  The overall goal is to help you live with more purpose and passion.

What if I am uncomfortable with the questions?

You choose the topic of each session, so we only talk about the areas of your life that you want to discuss.  Most clients find that they develop trust with me and are willing to talk about deeper topics.  Clients are also free to not answer any question that they don't like, although that hardly ever happens.

Does it really work to do it by phone or email?

Everyone is different, but my clients love the flexibility and convenience of using the phone or email for their sessions. People who like to talk through things choose phone sessions, and people who like to let their thoughts percolate and express themselves well through writing choose email sessions. You can read what other clients had to say, and if you'd like, I can connect you with clients who have volunteered to be a reference for me.

I’m not sure I’m really the coaching “type”.

All sorts of people seek out coaches, some of whom never expected to be on this path.  My clients tend to be curious, spiritual, creative, professional people who are ready to consider what motivates them, what stands in the way of their reaching new goals, and what new patterns they should set to see positive results in their daily lives. To see the positive outcomes achieved by other clients, read a few testimonials.

How are you different than my therapist, mentor, consultant or best friend?

Therapists, consultants, mentors, and best friends all have an important place in peoples’ lives at various stages of their life journey, but coaching is a little different.

  • Therapists work with unhealthy individuals to help them regain health.  The focus primarily on healing the past, while coaches work with healthy individuals to help them improve their present and future.
  • Mentors guide others down the same path that they have just gone down.  While mentors may be experts at that particular path, coaches are experts in helping people go down any path they choose.
  • Consultants solve the problem for you and then disappear. Coaches guide you toward your own solution and then stick with you while you implement the solution.
  • Best friends serve as supporters and sounding boards.  Sometimes they will not push you on a difficult topic because they want to preserve the friendship.  A coach can be a friend, but will also challenge your thinking in ways that your friends may not.

I heard that I should get a certified coach.  Are you certified?

I am certified by the
Institute for Life Coach Training and an active member of the largest and most prestigious coaching organization in the world, the International Coach Federation.

Are you just going to tell me what to do?

No. Coaches ask powerful questions to help you figure out what you want to do. No one is more of an expert on your life than you.

How long will it take?

Coaching agreements usually last for a minimum of three months and can extend as long as the client is getting the results they want.  Many people find that once they resolve one area of their life, they like to continue by talking about other areas.  Others choose to stop coaching when they reach a specific goal.

How much will it cost?

All of the current fees are listed on the page that describes my services.
